Rescued

Two weekends ago, we adopted a new horse. Kyleigh checks in regularly with miscellaneous pet/animal rescue sites each week. She's a huge advocate for rescuing animals and giving homes to the 1000's of animals waiting in rescues in need of loving homes. The mere thought of adopting a pet from a breeder just  just sets her off. Of course her prize companion Lexi, is a puppy mill puppy. We didn't know better 7 years ago.

 

Anyway, she was looking at a wildlife rescue site in Rogers County and discovered they had just taken 2 horses from a neglectful 'home' and needed to find suitable homes for them ASAP! They are not equipped for horses at the present time but are working toward that in the future. They mostly deal with wildlife such as raccoons, squirrels, deer and such who have been injured and need rehabilitation to get back into the wild.

 

So, Kyleigh talks to us about this horse and asks if it'd be okay to call the rescue and get more information on her. We've been keeping an eye out for another horse so thought we might as well find out what we could. We gave her the go-ahead and she found out the details on the horse. She is 13 and the place where she lived was just not able to afford to feed her. They could barely feed themselves. Otherwise she was healthy. Rick, Kyleigh and Addison took a trip over the next week and looked at her.  After another few days of pondering we decided she might be a nice fit for us. Preslie had been wanting a pure white horse for some time so...

 

They drove over and picked her up. She'd never been riden that we know of and we weren't sure how she would do being haltered or put in a trailer but she did remarkably well.

She lets the girls pet her and seems to be trusting for the most part. She's so thin her ribs show but now that she's getting unlimited hay and feed twice a day she should fatten up shortly.

We kept her in a stall until these 4 could build a new area for her. They worked all day on a nice stall and run area for her to live. I loved seeing them working as a team for a common goal.
