It IS a sparrow!

Well, who knew, it is a sparrow. Clearly we are not up on bird species but then again it's hard to tell what kind of a bird it is when it's just pink, featherless and looking pretty pathetic! Just 9 days ago it didn't resemble a bird and now.........Each day we'd make new guesses and we really thought it was a robin but nope, it's a sparrow. We've been in touch with the aviary, didn't even know Bartlesville had one, and they put us in touch with a great lady who has been a wealth of knowledge. Aside from the obvious, the fact that we are thrilled this little bird has been thriving, is the blessing it's been watching Kyleigh.

God has certainly given me a glimpse of her gift of caring for animals but more than that, an awesome glimpse into what an incredible mother she will one day be!!!! She is so nurturing, so selfless, compassionate and tender with this totally needy and dependent bird. It's awesome to know that will be multiplied by a million one day (way way way in the future haha) when she is a mommy!

Animals...she really has a way with them, almost an instinct on what they need. She just has been a step ahead of us for sure. She just knows what to do. She keeps maticulous notes on feeding, weight (yep, she weighs the bird daily), bedding changes and all and feeding a bird every 2 hours for 15 hours each day, that is love!!! She never complains but just knows this bird depends on her. Her notes are hilarious! She left MiMi a detailed note on how to care for her the day we were at a baseball game - priceless!! It reminds me of when I was a new mommy and Rick made a spreadsheet of feedings, diaper changes and naps. We are very similar in that way!! Anyway, she has been such a good foster 'mommy' to this bird and it's been so sweet to see how she has put her own needs/wants/desires behind the betterment of this bird. Seriously, amazing. Everything she does or doesn't do revolves around what would be of benefit to this bird.

So, that's the update on the little bird. We're now figuring out the next step which is teaching it to eat seeds and strengthen it's wings. I think a cage is in the near future from the way Ky was talking today. I'm sure she and Rick will be all over that tomorrow.
