There was quite a bit of measuring! Rick always says measure twice, cut once! He'd be proud - they were very exact. Good lesson in math for the girls! Real life application - even better! See you do use math as adults and in just about every single profession.
We talked about how they draw out the perimeter of the house so they can dig the footings! Preslie got a lesson on why I'm so insistent about tracing on the line and how bad our house would look if he didn't follow the lines carefully! Real life again!
Sometimes this happened during the day -
Probably after my little speech about coloring inside the lines
As we headed up to grandma's for some lunch we noticed this little fella! We had a little science lesson - talking of nocturnal creatures and what it might mean that this little guy is wandering around in broad daylight! Hmmmm, that can't be good!
I didn't take pictures of the girls and I rounding up the mini-horses to get them out of the area. (that would be considered P.E. for the day) It was comical but we did get it done. Seriously though, Kyleigh and Addison were brave and so valuable during this!
Anyway, we called Rick - pronto! He came down - armed. You might wanna skip the next picture if you're opposed to guns. If you're Hunter, or a hunter...you'll wanna see this next picture!
I love this! In his work clothes no less! He's a good shot! Mission accomplished!
And the clean-up! Peeeeeee ew!!
Anyway, back to the house. After lunch we headed back to see what they'd work on next!
I think they're talking it over.
The girls climbed up on a mound of dirt for a better view 
Next came the cement trucks - 3 of them! It was neat seeing them fill in the trenches they dug!
Important part of laying a solid foundation I learned.
Pouring and working it into an even layer filling up the footings.
Tomorrow more work will be done and we'll be there to watch!
School is in session at night, but we don't mind, much :)
What's this you ask? This is our economics lesson for the day. My parents might have phrased it as 'waste not, want not.' Rick never wastes anything. Ever! The guys told him they had extra concrete and asked where he wanted it emptied. I saw his little brain racing and he asked if they would mind taking it 'next door' to his moms house. They didn't mind. They came right over and Rick jumped in and helped them pour a nice little concrete area near her front door area. It'll be nice to not have that get so muddy!
These were such nice guys! We loved watching them begin on what will one day be our home!
