We'd enjoyed watching the birds grow and fly off. But, it seemed they kept coming back. Rick and I decided today that those babies were old enough. Sometimes we have to give babies a little shove out of their comfort zones ;0 They clearly could fly well and were almost full sized birds. So, this morning Rick went to take the nests down. Unfortunately, or fortunately, this is what he found.
More soon to be hatched babies! Hatched eggs are in the other nest on the other end of the porch. So, being the amazing and tender husband and father that he is, he began building a metal nest holder to set the nest back inside. It is secure!
A running joke around here is you can fix anything with bailing wire. So far, it hasn't been wrong.
The birds were deeply disturbed by us being so close to the babies.
The swarmed. They dive-bombed us and they squealed. But, I'm happy to report they have taken right back to caring for their babies. We still are slightly held hostage from going out on the front porch but next time they hatch, grow and begin flying away, we'll remove the nests. For today, they are safe and sound.
I'm grateful for a wonderful husband and father who is tender and loving. I feel pretty certain that even if he didn't have a wife and three daughters who rescued things, he would have rescued these babies anyway.
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. Matthew 10:29
